I don't know anything about the skating subculture, but I don't really see the harm in creating skating standards and idols. No one is forcing anyoneto participate in those things. Everyone can still do their own thing, can't they?

Not exactly. The whole concept of doing your own thing is being destroyed, and those who do do their own thing are ridiculed and pressured into adopting the standards and idols.

I havent been able to understand what is the neceesity to conform ..... isnt a man free to do and do what he wants to be his free will let him judge of what is wrong and what is right .. i guess the\at is the real spirit of doing your own thing ...
