Recently we have been getting reports of spam email in the form of an image and then a large body of gibberish text finding its way into inboxes on L2P.
The image will usually either contain a URL that the spam asks you to type into your browser or will be in the form of a stock tip.
The burning question is.. how do you block something that is virtually unable to be scanned (the image), contains no links/URL/URIs in text, and appears to be a virtually legitimate email when the text is scanned in the message?
The answer is OCR or optical character recognition. Spam Assassin on L2P can now actively parse these images and attempt to read inside the image for certain text. The measured effectiveness of this suggests that it can read even the text when spammers attempt to bypass such efforts.
Also we have added new blacklists into the server in an effort to block even more spam.
Enjoy the new spam filtering and let us know if you have any problems. _________________ * Knowledge Base * Wiki * Forum FAQs * |
