Both these games are coming out soon and Guitar Hero is going to finally get some competition for this type of game with Rock Band being released as well. Rock Band will have Drums and a Microphone as well as the guitar but will be much more expensive than Guitar Hero 3. Both games seem like they will have good songs but I personally think the Guitar Hero 3 songs are better and I already have the Guitar Hero 2 guitar. I definatley can't afford to buy a game like Rock Band though, since I have already spent enough on games this fall.

Is anyone going to get either of these games, if so, which one?

As a Wii owner, I only have one choice - Guitar Hero. However, I've only played any of the Guitar Heroes once, a couple of months ago at a shop. It's a game which I'd been wanting to try for a while, but never picked up for the PS2 because... well.. I don't play my PS2 much, and didn't really have the motivation.

So it definitely will be Guitar Hero for me.

However, comparing to Rock Band, both have their advantages. I'd imagine that playing different instruments with a bunch of mates could be fun, but I guess it might get to the point where it's a bit useless. One would imagine something like playing the drums and singing on a video game wouldn't be too much easier than actually playing the drums and singing. Thus I think it'd be more fun to get together in a band and mess around.

The Guitar definitely has it's advantages, because Guitar Hero is much easier to play than a real guitar, and you get the results almost immediately.

The other problem I see Rock Band having is the price. It's much more expensive than any other game out there, once you pick up all the peripherals. Also, the track length is half the size or something.

Both should be fun with a bunch of mates around though.

Rock band will be pretty fun, maybe. I can already see that the game will be too easy though, especially the drums. Surely you've all seen the drum set, and noticed that there's no bass pedal, at least from the pictures I've seen. Seriously, a drum set with no bass pedal... with a design that's not even consistent with that of a drum set to begin with.

I would get Guitar Hero III. In my opinion the game + guitar controller is already expensive enough. It's a fun game though, and I don't regret spending my money on it. But I already have the guitar controller so Guitar Hero III would be a lot cheaper then Rock Band. I guess that Rock band with the 3 different controllers will cost a lot of money, probably too much in my opinion for just one game.

Also, I think that Rock Band will have a lot but everything will be similar. They're doing a lot of things in one game just to try and be bigger than Guitar Hero. I'm doubting that they'll be better though.

Rock band sounds amazing, I can't wait for it. Hopefully my friends buy it because the most recent gaming console I have is the XBOX.

And just a question...how the heck do you play Guitar Hero with a Wii remote?!

How do you play Guitar Hero with an XBOX controller? Silly

You play the Wii version the same way, although the remote is incorporated into the guitar to take advantage of the wireless of the remote, the speaker, and the motion-sensing in the remote.

I got Guitar Hero III and I'm pretty happy with it, other than the fact that I suck at the later songs in Hard mode.. I don't have the time to become a true guitar hero, so it will take me forever to master the orange button. Especially with my relatively weak wrists and not so huge hands. Wow that makes me sound pretty useless.. haha.

Rock Band only interests me for the drum set, but I have a real acoustic set in my basement so I'll just resort to that instead of wasting more money.

The triggers and the bumpers are the frets (LT is green, LB is red, RT is yellow, RB is blue and I think orange is A).

As for the Wii remote, there is a slot on the guitar for it to be put into.

So far I have beat everything except for Raining Blood on Expert (and obviously the final battle). The online has been pretty decent so far... although people pick some really lame songs to play against you in because you probably have played it (like a bonus song) and they have practiced it more then enough times. I tried playing one battle and didn't really know what it was all about so I picked expert and they picked hard then they picked the song (Through the Fire and Flames) and then I couldn't quit, so it just failed me in about 5 seconds.

The online stats could also be way more organized.

I played a demo of Rock Band the other day, and I wasn't impressed. The singing and drums were lame. Really, the only cool part about it was the guitar... so, the way I see it, Rock Band is just an overbloated Guitar Hero.

There is a tour-bus type thing parked on my campus to promote RockBand. It looks like a terrible rip-off of Guitar Hero. I haven't had the chance to check it out yet, but I am not sure if I want to. Its set up like a stage, and people go up and play it. Well I am sick of all these people getting up there to sing and... well I wish I could stab my ears out. What makes it worse is they have these big speakers so you can hear it on most of south campus.

Maybe if they could get a decent singer (which would not be me) then it would be more interesting, but I am just not interested in checking something out with such a horrible noise coming out of it.

A similar game doesn't automatically make it a rip-off. In my view, Rock Band could be good competition for Guitar Hero. However, if many people have the "this is a rip off of Guitar Hero" attitude, it will probably do poorly.

I would rather have a game have some competition, even if the competition isn't as good, because it will at least make them put more effort into the game.

Also, the thing about Rock Band is it will also have drums which will attract a ton of people since a lot of people love playing the drums.

Although, I am going to stick with my Guitar Hero because I don't like playing the drums/singing, not to mention the price tag on it as well.

the fact that you can download extra tracks for rock band makes that game so much more versatile - although it does mean less sales of sequels

I suppose it means the only reason to release a sequel is better mechanics of the game etc, which is a good thing.

You can download extra tracks in Guitar Hero 3 and you even could in Guitar Hero 2 (on Xbox 360). Guitar Hero 3 already has a number of songs out to download.

Yep, and just today they released the Halo theme for free download for Guitar Hero 3. I haven't played it yet, but I downloaded it just in case it's a one day only thing.
