The SSH server is for remote management.
You can find a couple of Apache control panels by the way. You should look for one as it might make your life a little bit easier
And what distribution are you using. _________________ Dilly dally, shilly shally. |

Well I have downloaded and installed Apche HTTP and it all seems to be working fine from what I can see, I just need to know what I really need to do next in order to be able to access the machine with Apche on it via the router as I want to use that as a file storage system hence the reason for setting up a small server on it.
Any ideas on what I need to do next |

Yeah I am using Windows XP and I have Apache HTTP installed when I enter localhost in my browser I get the message saying Apache Works
However when I go to another PC and try to access the IP I get taken to my router congfig page.
Am not sure what I need to do in order to access this machine from another machine via my router
Or if I need to do more ajustments to Apache

S | Do port forwarding configurations in your router.
Forward port 80 to that computer which you had Apache installed.

Actually i know about doing what you need done. I have a ubuntu Server Set up at http://5361web.info/ (Should work even for you) I wrote a guide about how to set it up at http://www.dant2.com/blog/inst.....ystem.html
If you follow that guide you will have a ubuntu powered Web server that you can accsess from any pc assuming you have a consistent IP address (Or a dynamic dns service such as no-ip.org or DYNDNS)
Then you have to install samba ( Should be as simple as sudo apt-get install samba smbfs and possibly follow this guide if it doesnt work. http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/samba.htm)
Then you just go to my computer and Map a network drive Make sure you login using a different user name and for the Host feild use your local servers ip (Such as //192.168.0.11 ) Oh and add the two backslash things to the front of it first. ( ie // ) and you probally have to add your username too. But if it works it shows up as if it were a harddrive Like it does on mine.

< - See it shows up just like a normal drive i can even see how much free space i have.
Oh but dont try windows home server its horrible. _________________ Visit my New Blog At http://www.dant2.com/blog/

You can also try no-ip client for dynamic ip support if you happen to have a dynamic IP _________________ Im just a "Fresh-Starter"... You don't need to be harsh on me, really... so take it gently. |

Only a couple of questions..
Are you going to host your website on this home server?
What type of connection do you have coming into your website?
Is it for development purposes? _________________ Ez-Bux.com COMING SOON |
