Are you sure you can play Vista only games on XP?

I was under the impression that the problem was with how Vista was actually built, since a spokesperson from Microsoft claimed this.

I looked into the program that was supposed to make a wrapper for XP that emulated Vista in some shape or form, and the guy hasn't made any real progress last time I checked.

Personally, I think that if you have to use a wrapper just to play it, if even it ever works, that the game would be laggy.

Just upgrade to Vista.

Vista was actually built on the same structure as XP was so all Vista only games are limited that way because of supporting issues like I explained above. Microsoft announced their new operating system after Vista will be built entirely from scatch, which would support what you are talking about. You don't need a Vista wrapper to support these Vista only games, just a crack/hack/hex edit to take out the dialogue/check that disables you from playing or even installing the game. I've used these methods many times for XP only games for Windows 98. But yes, using a wrapper/emulator for an operating system would be extremely slow and laggy for playing games.

Ironically, I went through the hassle of installing XP on my Vista computer to play games. I get better framerates in XP than I do in Vista, but I prefer Vista for day-to-day use.

I tried out Halo 2 for PC, but it sucked. Not the Vista-only part. That I didn't mind. It was the fact that the graphics settings were insanely limited (think low/medium/high with no advanced settings to change) and it acted too much like a console game (right down to the assumption that you were using a controller). If I want to play a console game, I'll buy a freakin' console.

I haven't tried Shadowrun, but if it's a good game, I'd say upgrading to Vista would be worth it. As for running Vista-only games on XP...I have no clue about that. I have heard that Halo 2 can be run on XP without certain features and it amounts to a crack, but I'm not sure.

Can't be as bad as the Resident Evil 4 release for the PC. You can't even use the mouse in the game, you aim with your keyboard.

It was an impulse buy on my part, since I just assumed mouse support was included. The idea of having the precision of a mouse in blowing a zombies face off really intrigued me.

Yet, it is utterly disappointed. The cutscenes don't work, either. So I have to guess what the story is. Oh, and the on-screen action buttons are represented by numbers, so you have to guess which keys to press during action scenes. It's so annoying that I just stopped playing it.

Worst buy of my life.

How does Halo 2 for PC compare to THAT?

Well...the "Accept" and "Back" options in the menus are represented by Xbox controller buttons (so pressing "A" and "B" on the keyboard will navigate you through the menus). But at least the mouse works. I can't imagine playing a modern computer game without a mouse. It may have been fine in the Doom era, but not now.
