POP3, IMAP, and SMTP are provided.

SMTP is locked down and is monitored in the following ways:

1) All outgoing emails are assigned a unique ID which has the cPanel account name that sent it attached to it. This will allow us to terminate any account that sends spam via the server as we know exactly which account sends email. It is even virtually impossible for injected processes to skirt around this due to all processes being suexec.

1a) All emails sent by scripts are logged with the precise path to the script and the IP that triggered the script to send the email. This allows all spam complaints to be investigated and the offending accounts terminated quickly.

2) Software limits the number of emails sent per hour to 250 and will hard fail any emails over this limit bounced back to the email address that attempts to send more. An alert is also sent to me each time this limit is exceeded so we can check for email spam.

3) All outgoing ports for sending email have been firewalled off to prevent spam from being sent via the server through other SMTP servers.

Email may be provided, but it is carefully monitored to ensure there is very little potential for abuse.

Okay, well because I want to have a website to go with my local magazine I am working on. I am planning to sell ad space that corresponds to my ad's in my magazine. I wanted to allow users to be sent an email if they forget their password. This is not a problem, right?

That will not be a problem. I just like to detail several defensive measures we take to prevent spam so that new members understand it is not tolerated and is very tightly controlled. Smile
