i don't even "get" the last two posts.
as I said - why not just delete the majority of the forum, and continue that way, it's not needed. |

Trel got at the technicalities. I'll try to get at "alternative" explanations.
Graeme, forgive me if what I'm about to state is wrong in your case.
When a website makes money off of a community, it's typically done in one of two ways: a) Garnering money from community donations, or b) Advertising dollars through click-thru or static ads.
In the latter, advertisers are much more willing to pay more money to advertise in a community with both a large user-base and a well established content base. The well established base being how old the forum is and how many total posts, and active posts, are within the community.
Go to any of the Top-25 forums listed at Big Boards and take note of who's advertising on those forums. The ads you see are not of the "Click here for MSN smilies" variety. Instead, they are actual static ads from reputable companies. You'll also note the size and population of the forum.
Starting over would kill reputation in the eyes of vendors and advertisers. |

Wellity wellity wellity - what do we have here! It appears that some numpty (me) had a bookmarked link to the old support thread on LLP and after checking it one day only to find that its been locked, hasn't been back on LLP - until NOW! KAPOW! (Batman style effect)
I've just painstakingly gone through all 7 pages (and a cup of tea) to read what's going on. It seems that most people would like a fresh start. I see someone pointed out the forum4all link - is that something an ex-SAM.net member had set up since SAM.net has been down? Or was it an existing forum before hand? It seems pretty big. I just had a quick peek at the members list and there is a few familiar names etc.
As for starting a new Soccer AM fan site - I have read with interest and concern the comments posted on the Proboards website by Graeme about SKY trying to takeover/demand the site - on what grounds I don't know, as we are only a fan site, and there isn't any copyright stuff on there - and as for the domain name (if thats what they are after) they can bid for it but they can't demand it! (at least not that im aware of)
I did spend a good chunk of my spare time (that I could have used to watch Coventry loose at the Ricoh) on designing a new site. Its finished now though, and has been for some considerable time (finished as in, ready to upload, some pages still need working on)
I would be more than happy to apply here and get a "free" hosting account set up via LLP (a small-sized site - one that doesn't have to be massive to get the advertising revenue streams - on a smaller server) and launch the brand new site from that. I doubt very much that anything new will ever get as big as the old SAM.net forums were.
HOWEVER if this SKY thing doesn't just fizz out then suppose I'll have to go back and redesign some of my stuff which mentions SoccerAM, or maybe I won't - who knows.
So with that in mind - does anyone think its worth starting a "SoccerAM.net2" - and to LLP people - how to I go about applying for the hosting on here?
Cheers

It was set up by a couple of lesser known SAM.net members last November and a few more of us joined as you saw with the quick look at the memberlist.
It's not bad and it would certainly appeal to people wishing for a new start, that's to their own discretion. |

| I think via email/MSN a large majority of the 'major' posters are probably connected, I don't think it would be too hard to get the word out if we were to start over. |

Hi,
Seeing as there is a very low chance of the forums ever returning, myself (JimboN) and chrisbennett7 have started off another wee phpBB3 forum, non related to SAM.net. It's isn't much, seeing as it's been running since today, but still, it's something.

Start it from scratch again.
What possible reason could there be for wanting to keep hold of the old rubbish on there in anything other then an archive capacity?
££££'s? |

Just a personal opinion of course but I sometimes like to read old topics. It'd also render the search function virtually impossible. I like the fact that the forum has been going for a while now and that the history is there for all to see.
I'm sure some people look at the site, see its had a lot of topics. posts etc and think "seems like a lot of people like this place" and then join. So in that way it helps as well. People get put off joining new forums because 99% of them don't take off. I know thats how I feel anyway.
If people are really desperate to make a new one then I stop talking about it and just do it. I think its worth waiting to have the site back in full when we can then carry on with the planned redesign that was literally just about to be uploaded. _________________ [img:2b23f8c1d9]http://i15.tinypic.com/6fq09pl.jpg[/img:2b23f8c1d9] |
