Have you heard about sound therapy? It's a way of treating illnesses, helping sleep or just to enhance well being. There has been found that certain sound frequencies can be used to help a person be alert or help her/him sleep; lower frequencies are for lower activity (for sleep they are the lowest).
A link explaining all this: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Sound-for-Therapy
Brainwave generator (http://www.bwgen.com) (and other programs, I'm just putting this because it's the one I tried out) is putting theory into pratice; it generates certain sounds that helps you sleep or stay alert. Listening to some of the relaxing/sleep themes (through earphones) definitely made me feel sleepy and yawny. _________________ It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I wouldn't doubt it. I've seen similar programs that claim to be able to induce narcotic-like effects through certain frequencies. The biggest thing I think might affect this would be the lack of control over the way the sound is produced: everyone's computer has different sound capabilities, and even things like choice of headphones can alter the sound of something, if only minutely. And I think it's the minute detail of the frequency that causes the effects. _________________ Gloria Fidelis: A Steampunk Fantasy |
