This was released on DVD here a couple of weeks ago. So, of course we bought it, and had a family DVD night with pizza and popcorn thrown in for good measure.

It's an absolutely fantastic film - for ALL the family. I watched it with two of my sons and my aunt (10, 6, and 61!!!). Everyone really loved it. Robert de Niro plays and excellent part in it, although i would have liked to have seen more of him. There's a bit of something for everyone in it - humour, action, love etc etc. And, although i had the plotline worked out within about 10 minutes of the start, it certainly didn't ruin my enjoyment of the movie.

I know the screenplay was written by Jane Goldman, wife of wibblywobbly jonathon woss - does this mean the book too? Is there even a book?

I may go have a look for it - even though i've seen the film already, if there's a book i'd definitely like to read it!

I had no intention off watching this film when it hit my local Cinema last year. However the other half really wanted to see it, and as I had already said I would pay for wherever she wanted to go that night, it was a cheap date!
I was pleasantly surprised, it was actually really enjoyable. I have it on DVD as well Mel. Definitely a nice addition for my collection.

She wants to watch The Other Boleyn Girl this weekend. Oh well, sure I will get a sleep during this one!

I went and saw that one when it came out at the movie theater and while it was something I picked at the time to go see on my birthday because it just so happened to be on at the right time, so we went to it and I was really glad that we did. I thought it was a wonderful movie that had a great mix of adventure, entertainment, comedy and even a little romance thrown in there. The cast was incredible and I really enjoyed this film. Robert De Nero was without a doubt the scene stealer of this film and his character was a different sort of one for him, but he was top notch in his performance and made the film all the more entertaining. We just bought the DVD as well and I would highly recommend the movie to anyone who is in need of a good laugh or just wants to watch an entertaining movie. This one had a little bit of everything in it and was one of the better ones that I have seen over the last year.

I haven't seen the movie yet, although I must admit that I would love to see it, so I guess I'll have to go rent it if everyone here says it's that good Wink

There is a book, but it's written by Neil Gaiman. One of his earlier novels, if I recall. The book is pretty good, and the movie is relatively faithful to the general concept, though there are some glaring differences. For one, Captain Shakespeare does not appear in the novel at all, while a different skyship captain appears in the book with much less of a role than Shakespeare played. There's some differences in the ending and other plot points as well.

I enjoyed both the movie and the novel, though they are very different creatures. Still, Gaiman rarely disappoints: he's a good writer.

Stardust wasn't one of my favorites; Neverwhere and American Gods, however, are excellent books. I'm currently reading through Anansi Boys, another of his works, and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. He's done a collaboration work with Terry Pratchet, titled Good Omens, that is one of my favorite books.

There's a link to his journal; he blogs fairly frequently, and his site has a wealth of information, including links to most of his work. Hope you enjoy it. Smile
