Can we have subscript and superscript added to the BBCode? It is something which has always annoyed me.

Purpose? For a few math/science equations?

[sub]T[/sub]e[sup]s[/sup]t

Maybe as a hidden bbcode (as in no button for it in the "reply box")

i also do not understand why you need it? i do not see many people often making math/science equations. or i am just an ignorant fool who sees nothing...

I can see no point of having such a bbcode like that.

What's it for?

I've never noticed any posts that made me think: "Wow, if only this part of were in a subscript." As for superscript, it isn't needed because one can just use the karat symbol for the few instances that people do post maths.

Exactly...

Wouldn't it be easier for people to understand if subscript and superscript were used? Not everyone knows that the caret(^) raises a number to a power, but everyone would know what 2^2 means if superscript was used.

Don't calculators use the caret for "to the power of"? Anyone who did not know that would not be interested in what is being talked about.

e^2 and H2O are the few math/science equations and terms I was talking about and they are hardly ever used, so it won't matter if we have to do it manually.

As for style (eg: 2nd), would anyone be bothered writing out the BBCode for it?

Anyways, it would be a simple mod and as long as it doesn't help clutter the buttons alongside the reply box, it would be fine.

It's a matter of style. Subscripts and superscripts make the text easier to understand and also look better.

Some people haven't touched calculators in years (yay analytical geometry / calculus barely using them in the first two years and completely forsaking them in multi-variable calculus), and therefore use the caret symbols for, say, bitwise exclusive or.

(& = bitwise and
~ = not
| = bitwise or
^ = exclusive or)

I highly doubt that this is many people, so it's grasping at straws, but that's one case.

Another case:

Quote:
CaO2H2 + H3PO4 -> Ca3P2O8 + H2O
3 CaO2H2 + 2 H3PO4 -> Ca3P2O8 + 6 H2O

Doesn't that look uuugly without subscripts?

It may look uglier but chemical equations always look ugly Silly
Also, anyone that knows programming would know that the caret is also used in maths for "power of".

It's not a mod that is extremely needed, but it's a nice thing to have. Yes, you can make them without sub and sup, but they'd be a nice thing to avoid confusion that .001% of the time.

Not needed, but a nice luxury.
