Does anyone here actually listen to techno music? And what do you see in it? Im not saying hat its lame music or anything, i'm just interested in hearing what people like about it and maybe it'll inspire me to like it also.
There is only one techno related song that i even kinda like, and im listening to it right now and its what made me think of creating this topic.
It's the remix to "heaven" (sung by Do) and remixed by DJ Sammy. It's pretty cool actually.
Are there any techno songs or DJ's or something that i should look into?
The techno music used in the matrix wasn't that bad.
is there such a thing as a mix between like Mechanical/metal/pop etc music and techno? I must admit that some of the techno sounds are pretty cool and amazing sounding.
Also please no moby ha.

Heaven by DJ Sammy is a dance song... not techno Trust me... I live in Europe. Europe and dance music go hand in hand
I don't listen to techno however, so I can't make any form of recommendation nor can I offer you a true opinion on it. _________________ I Love Rebecca More Than Anything In The World <3

Rap music uses keyboards, synthesizers, samples etc. but that still bears no resemblance to techno... _________________ I Love Rebecca More Than Anything In The World <3

It is considered techno.

Rap music misuses keyboards, synthesizers, samples, etc. Wait, what am I saying? Rap music only uses a synthesizer, what would rap producers use a keyboard for?
On topic, I listen to techno/trance/electronic music, and like it a lot, but I'm rather picky about what I listen to. I'm not exactly a fan of simple, constantly looping sequences or one-note synth lines, but rather, complex melodies, interesting chord progressions, and kickdrum variations... one of the reasons I like trance and gabba so much.

DJ Tiesto, Shiki, Phantasma, DJ Sharpnel, SoundTeMP, Infected Mushroom, Digital Explosion, and dj taka, just to name a few. Their styles vary, but are all subgenres of techno. _________________ I talk to the rain |

I used to help produce some instrumentals for raps and stuff and we used the computer midi like programs and stuff. I don't know if thats really techno or anything.
So what is considered as techno? Just computer generated music or? _________________ http://www.snapcite.com | http://www.rootsOfevil.com | http://www.MJHQ.com |

Raps have instrumentals? Since when?
| Scar wrote: | | So what is considered as techno? Just computer generated music or? |
It's subjective. One person's "punk rock" may be another person's "alternative rock." The best answer I can give is, in the most generalized form, if the track in question has looping kickdrum, hi-hat, and cymbal/crash sequences, synth lines, and a melody of some sort, on a 4/4 structure, then it's most likely techno. Though some subgenres of techno/electronic music use different time signatures and structures. _________________ I talk to the rain |

Well, as I have learned, the actual genre of music made up of whoops thuds and claps is based on how it sounds, and the beats per minute it supplies. I don't give a hoot.
Some music you may want to look into would be Dj Tiesto (Trance), Pendulum (Drum & Bass), Infected Mushroom (Not sure), Dj Luna (Like super hardcore awesome stuffs), and there are a bunch more that I can't think of at the moment. Here's a quick list of stuff in general, not counting the others listed. Not going to list their specific genre though...
4 Strings, Basshunter, Daft Punk, Fischerspooner, Lords of Acid, Scooter, Splashdown, Paul Oakenfold, BT, and Paul van Dyk.
That should last you a short while. Also, make sure you look into Scooter. They are mazing and one of my favorites. I think at one point I had over 3,000 listens on my last.fm of them. Enjoy. _________________

Techno is complete ****, if you want to listen to some real music search brockie, he's drum and bass dj and one of the best. I love drum and bass but some tunes are only good when you have an M.C, when it comes to M.Cs there is one man who rules the roost Eksman. Obviously there are others out there just as good but Eksman is the best.
Anyone who likes techno must be on crack _________________ Your request for hosting with Lifelesspeople.com has been denied.

On crack ergo sum.
Not that you'll be able to see this message, but I though I'd clarify that. Oh, and drum 'n bass is considered a subgenre of techno. _________________ I talk to the rain |

And rap does use keyboards. Synthesizers are generally useless on their own... they need either a drum machine or a keyboard attached to them to synthesize notes of different pitches.
I have produced some reggaetón (subgenre of hip-hop) and I ALWAYS use a keyboard. _________________ I Love Rebecca More Than Anything In The World <3

Otherwise known as techno.

orly? I thought rap only had a beat and some hi-hats. I can see a keyboard being used if it's a live production, but if it's all being worked on a digital audio workstation, just a sequencer can do enough of a job. _________________ I talk to the rain |

I use the sequencer to organise the different parts of the song I have recorded e.g. the hook, chorus, intro, outro, verse, verse variation etc.
And dance is not techno. If anything techno is a subgenre of dance, just like trance.
However, I see no differences between what people classify as techno and electronic music. _________________ I Love Rebecca More Than Anything In The World <3

So not true. They are quite different. I can't take it anymore, so here's how it breaks down.
Most every electronic music falls under the mother genre of EDM or Electronic Dance music. From there they break down into subcategories based on sound and BPM or Beats Per Minute. There is a major difference in sounds and BPM when it comes to comparing Techno, Dance, House, Rave, Drum & Bass, and etc.
Here's a quick breakdown to the rough range of BPM per genre.
| Quote: | * 60–90 bpm — hip hop and dub
* 90–120 bpm — faster hip hop and big beats/trip hop
* 120–135 bpm — house
* 135–155 bpm — techno
* 130-180 bpm — Trance
* 155–180 bpm — drum and bass / jungle
* 180 + bpm — hardcore gabber and beyond
|
Most sub genres of EDM are based off of different principles. For example, Techno has more of a funk sort of basis and sound where as Trance has more of a smooth sound.
So for more information, you can checkout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.....ance_music or, my personal favorite, Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music.
Ishkur's Guide is my favorite because you can listen and compare by sounds more then just a written description. Now, pop that on your tongue and swallow, BEYOTCH!!!!
...Sorry, I just feel good. Been a while since I've been in depth in anything.
Also, on a last note for this specific post, if you are looking for more artists, check out the Ishkur's guide and look around. See what you enjoy. It lists most, if not all the artists used for example. Then just google from there.
Enjoy.
P.S. Kovacs, go under Jungle and look at Ragga in the Ishkur's Guide. _________________
