So, I'll be the first to admit, I don't know very much about poetry. That said, I'd like to improve, and you guys seem to know quite a bit about it, so any critiques or opinions would be appreciated. ^_^ This poem was done for a writer's craft assignment, and is in free verse. Unfortunately, no one in my class seemed to get the message I intended. Ah, well.

The Hat Makes the Hatter

Is the uneven tilt of a man’s hat
and the sharp angle of his grin
Enough for us to observe
that he isn’t quite sound
in matters of kisses and
split/sewn hearts?

Or is it the silky whisper
Of his long-abused hat
ragged and patched
beyond all repair
enough to condemn him
for having witnessed an
inconceivable land?

It gives us the right
to judge him.

Mad.

All because his jilted hat
Housed a crooked head.

It really seems to give an almost elegant tone. I'm not sure I quite understand what you were trying to say with this poem either, but I'm going to take a guess you were tring to say that you can't lable a person by apperance alone. If thats not what you were trying to say then I'm sorry. I really liked it though.
