That's just what rich companies do. If buying a service from someone else is cheaper than developing it yourself, then just buy it when possible. |
And then there was MS-DOS |
I am afraid Google is taking over habits from its older brother, yes. _________________ If you can read this, my post is on an alternating background. |

Chances are google will make it themselves though. They got some pretty smart people around. _________________ Dilly dally, shilly shally. |

I believe it's almost always cheaper to develop it yourself than to buy it. Howver, developing it yourself needs a great idea, lot's of research and time. I think that's the reason Google buys services, to introduce new services fast. It saves them a lot of time. _________________ My new site |

I find the name TinEye weird. They won't be popular that easily with that weird and uncommon name.
It's like you imagine a tin with one eye, Tintin and what not and they aren't even related. _________________

I quite like the name actually. _________________ My new site |

TinEye has received quite some attention, for as far as I can tell. I don't think the name is really that important. Just look how many succesful websites there are with stupid names (not saying TinEye is a stupid name). _________________ If you can read this, my post is on an alternating background. |

Personally I think myspace and facebook are terribly stupid names. _________________ Dilly dally, shilly shally. |

Only if you think about it. If you do, Google is a "stupid" name too. _________________

A name does not have to be interesting. Just keeping it to one or few syllables will make it easy for people to remember. _________________ If you can read this, my post is on an alternating background. |

I just had this brilliant idea to use TinEye to crack the mystery pic competition over at Neopets (If you ever were a Neopets player, you know the one... it's where you're given a small piece of a picture and have to determine where it came from. It's quite difficult and can win you sometimes awesome prizes and a trophy...).
Unfortunately, though, it didn't work at all, and I've tried the current and a few of the old competition pics... I guess either the TinEye database doesn't have the neopets website all scanned up, or the given clue piece is just to small to get any results. Either way, it was a waste of time (but still, a good idea). _________________ Tarakana NET |

| This has a big brotherish feel to it, but it is still pretty cool. I look forward to the day Google buys them and integrates the technology with a better user interface. |

That took long... | I look forward to the day when it comes out of the Lab. Google hardly fails anyone, eh? _________________

Haha wow that really didn't take long at all! Has anyone tried to see if the Google Labs version fares any better in terms of results, given that it has a bigger database to work with? _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

The results are a bit different. TinEye searches for images that are almost duplicates, The google labs feature usually shows pictures that look like each other, but they usually aren't duplicates.
So I think they both have different uses. _________________ My new site |
