G'Day
I'm trying to transfer my email acconts from the standard Vista Windows Mail to Outlook 2003.
Anyone know if there is a way to do it easily, since I have to go rummaging through a large amount of paperwork to find the passwords for those accounts? _________________ For Metal and Rock interviews and reviews, go to www.heavymetalnation.com - You can Contribute too if you want!

Did you use IMAP or POP3 with Windows Vista Mail? _________________ Rashy! |

If it's POP3, all your mail should just be downloaded from the server and there wouldn't be any change on the server side even if you delete anything locally (in Windows Mail).
Simply just configure your account in Outlook and you should be good to go. _________________

pharmer, I'm assuming you've tried the forgotten password methods for your accounts? My thinking is you're a bit short on options especially as many, if not most, methods to export mail and settings will not transfer the passwords for security and/or technical reasons. The best option I've found so far is to use the free (but fully functional) 20 day trial of:
http://www.staticbackup.com/wi.....il-backup/
Also I recommend you use IMAP (google pop3 vs imap or imap benefits to see why).
Jacky, unfortunately, POP3 accounts in Outlook have historically always set "leave a copy of the message on the server" to false/unchecked by default and I can only assume Windows Mail is the same. While that's fine for those that know what they're doing and change this settings, those who don't end up getting into a bit of a pickle in these cases. And it still doesn't seem to solve the seemingly larger problem of him not having his passwords available. _________________

For example, that option does not apply to Gmail as Gmail has its own settings which decide whether to leave the emails intact in the inbox or archive them. _________________

it's not a huge issue, the main reason I wanted to get around it is because I don't really want to spend an hour on the phone to Telstra just to reset my passwords.
Jacky won't know what I am talking about there (although I'm sure other countries have similar levels of "service" from large telco companies). _________________ For Metal and Rock interviews and reviews, go to www.heavymetalnation.com - You can Contribute too if you want!

It has been some years since I last used a mail client to check my email account created in my cPanel. I have been depending on Gmail for the last 2-3 years since it's more convenient for me. _________________
