I just installed ubuntu 7.10, and it won't recognize my onbord sound card. My motherboard is an Asus, and that's all I know. _________________ hmm |

The response I got for aplay -l wasn't listed. It said I had USB sound when I don't. Also the website it listed for drivers was down. _________________ hmm |

shrelk: Is this a notebook by any chance? I had a similar problem and the package "alsa-fix" fixed everything up. Sorry I don't have an info/download link on hand. |

I get sound problems a lot with Ubuntu. There's never an easy way to fix it, though. Perhaps the problem might be solved by using a different sound driver (other than ALSA). Try going back to OSS if possible.
Manual configuration might be another solution, if you can figure out your sound card specs. Have you asked at the Ubuntu forums? _________________ "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." --Thomas Jefferson

I had an identical problem earlier. It was fixed by updating ALSA to the latest version in the repository (not the most stable verion but it sure works fine). _________________
