It's already the 7th, almost 1/3 of the way through April, and the hosting fees have yet to be updated. If it doesn't update soon we won't have much time to get enough for the next month. When is it going to be updated?

Yes, I totally agree with Scott. The problem is that we will have less time to collect the points Confused It's ok for me but it can be dificult for those who have to pay a huge ammount of point or for those who are alone to collect them Rolling Eyes

You've been here 2 years and you say that? Every month, the changeover is about the 7th day (which, by the way, is almost one quarter, not third, of the way into the month). So the less time is canceled out by more time at the start of next month. I don't see a reason for it though besides making it harder for those who plan to come at the start of the month, post a lot then stop.

I have never noticed it taking this long... It is usually just a few days into the month that it is done.

meybe it is an automated thing happening every, say, 31 days, so ove time, eventually with all the days that are not 30 days, the day it happens on creeps up through the month.

It is all irrelevant so long as the "month" is the same number of days each time - it doesn't matter which day of a calendar month it trips over, so long as the amount of days per cycle are relatively equal.

It is not automatic. Trel have to update it every month personally.

I only remember once... I don't know if it was because of Katrina hurricane or if it was because Trel was very busy/on holidays.

Well, it's ok now. It seems that Treal read this thread Laughing

Mmm... didn't feel like creating a new thread so I piggy back this one.

It's May 11th and the hosting dues have not been collected! I'd have next month's points all ready to go if the points would have been collected. Been quite a number of fun topics lately. I'd rather post then be cruddy and wait until points are collected though. I like the community. Very Happy

Yes... to be honest, I have been looking around at alternatives for hosting. I usually wouldn't even say this but I heard a mention that LLP has not gone in the ideal path or something along those lines with the original idea being to serve free hosting to those who are dedicated to hosting a site but for some reason, have a need for it to be free. But with no explanation, who knows what the reason is. Doesn't Trel want to continue running this freely? Financial issues? etc.

If Trel needs help or cannot continue the service or even if there is something impairing his ability to run this host, it would be nice if there was quick post explaining this. Of course, he could ask for help Smile Being with LLP for 2 years and having confidence that my site will be reliably online after only a few months of hosting, I, and probably others here would be willing to help out.

Yeah, I'd be willing to help too, if the help is needed. I just hope that whatever is going on is not going to end up with an abrupt closing and taking down of sites. I was just thinking the other day that making a backup of my site would be a good idea.

About 1 or 2 weeks ago LP bought a new IP address/server (I don't know) in a different location from Asgard so, I don't think Trel is planning to stop running this service =)

Harvey's idea is on the right track, but not entirely what I had in mind.

I believe L2P's days of offering public free webhosting services are over. These days it is far too easy to get a fairly decent account for almost no effort (compared to what we require).

I think the community will be much better off without the spammers or others that come here just at the end of the month for a few days to post the minimum required to keep their accounts.

When L2P started under a different name the mission statement was simply to provide free webhosting without advertisements to deserving websites that would not be able to stay online without it. That core mission has been lost in attempting to grow and I believe a return to that core mission statement by going private is what is required.

By invitation only services would allow us to be much more selective about who is hosted here.

Trel has been contemplating a change in the way the hosting service here is structured (not the service itself, but rather, the community underpinning the service).

However, Trel is not AWOL. I got a few words in with him not too long ago.

To the best of my knowledge, the service is not going anywhere. Its just how the service is distributed is what may be changed.

Just hang tight folks.

wow! theese are great news! I think LP will increase the ammount of quality sites and the server is not going to be overloaded Smile

Quality services use to remain private (by invitation only) in order to control growth and resources.

I would like you to mantain the forums. I like to help in the support area, give suggestions, feedback and all that stuff Rolling Eyes

I would be glad to help... I said Trel: if any I can do please ask =)
