I agree that getting PBPP in the past is really really easy, especially in 2005.

One could get 2000+ PBPP in a month, even with the 55 PBPP maximum per post limit. Back then we could enjoy lots of PBPP being converted to VSP, and there were lots of active topics.

Nowadays, when I browse the forums, I just feel that something is missing... Only a few of the topics posted are interesting now.

I don't know how it's possible to get that much in a month nowadays mainly because if you make enough posts, you get punished and you can only get 0.05 PBPP per post.

Regardless, I too feel that something is missing on these forums. I participate in a few topics, but that's usually about it. I suppose some sort of change would be good for the forums (if the forums stay).

EDIT: I didn't realize it but the PBPP has been reset. Interesting.

Punished for posting too much? This is the first I've heard of this. I guess I just don't post enough to get punished. How many posts does one need to make before they start to make 0.05 PBPP?

Considering you make quality posts plus you post everyday, it's not hard to get 2000 PBPP in the past.

2000?? Shocked I agree that was easier, I used to earn 400 PBPP alone. Now I have some people helping... but 2000 was and is too much for me! Laughing

This happens when you make too many posts per day, whether they are all 55 pointers or single emoticon posts, after too many posts per day, you can only get 0.05 points per post.

I think it would be a spam protection thing.

It was a spam prevention thing just like someone else suggested, however I did not spam anything. It was my first week on these forums and I was still learning how things worked. So I posted and posted, and I was excited about the idea and everything, and being a big forums person I ended up writing a lot. At one point that night the punishment came down on me and I had to wait a day for it to be lifted.

I haven't posted too many posts in one day ever since.

Wait a second, I thought it was once you got a certain amount of PBPP in a day then you could only get 0.05 PBPP per post. I guess I was wrong?

I remember the first day of November or December-ish of 2004 when I believe I had the 200 PBPP/month hosting and I got almost all of the PBPP I needed in that one day, and then I think I passed the 200 mark the next day. I ended up posting too much or whatever on the first day, which is why I stopped getting PBPP and I had to wait until the next day to continue getting them.

That's how it was back then. You could get all the PBPP you needed in just a few days or so if you stayed in the forum for long periods of time. When you posted in a opic, you could look at it a short while later and there would be a new post, so then you could reply again. I think right now that would be very difficult to do just because of the lack of topics and posts in the topics.

I remember when I first joined and the minimum amount of PBPP per month was 1000, and most people had no problem getting the points. Now, let's see, I came back a couple of months or so ago, right? I come here almost every day and I post in topics that I think are interesting, but I still haven't reached 1000 PBPP since returning! I could post more, but I don't have webhosting so I wont bother with a topic if it doesn't really interest me. Oh well...

Oh and one other thing., though I think I mentioned this in another topic. Right now I'm the only registered user signed into the forum, which is common these days. However... Back in the old days, I would take screen shots of the forum because being the only one signed in was a VERY rare event, and it only happened to me when I stayed up all night. I remember always trying to set a new record for users signed into the forum. I guess that's a thing of the past now.

The forum has definitely died down, but it's still nice hanging out here most of the time.

Yes, it was easyer then to get 1000 PBPP, but the fact that there were a lot more active threads wasn't the only reason. In the beginning of the PBPP system the rewards for each post were higher, so it was a lot easyer to get the 1000 PBPP. After a while, Trel introduced the different hosting plans and lowered the amount of PBPP you got per letter. I used to get 2000 or more PBPP without a lot of effort in the beginning of the PBPP system.

It's kinda a bummer because in a sense it might be pushing people to post more, but the less determined ones will just give up and find another place to post for hosting...

Oh well.

Well, actually I'm also thinking about getting a paid host, especially because it seems harder and harder to collect enough points.

It's bad that there aren't a lot interesting topics anymore.

I really don't like this argument, even though I somewhat agree with it. There are times when I go through all of the forums I would normally post in, find there are not topics that interest me, an then log off without making a single post. But at the same time I feel we can't really use this argument since, if there are no posts that interest us, we should just make our own posts full of interesting material.

People also need to try to create actual discussion. I've seen a lot of threads (and not just on LLP) where someone starts a thread, everyone replies just to the first post, and then the thread ends with a lot of posts, but no actual discussion. This thread actually seems to me an anomaly to what I normally see.

The problem is that... hardly anyone wants to participate in the discussion, or rather, reply in the topic.

Then people thought it's a boring topic and just ignore it.

Agreed. There is rarely any discussion. I try to reply often to the topics I create (like the Yahoo! Mail getting unlimited storage topic) but in the end not many people actually reply to my replies. It just seems like most people are in it for making one initial post to get some points and then never come back to look if there were any replies.

But I think the new question for the time being should be, when will the hosting fee be collected for this month now that the fee was collected late? Do we have to cram and get all the points by the end of this current month? Or is it going to be a week into the next month to give people some extra time?

In a lot of posts here at llp I see that most people only bother to read the first post, there are threads here with dozens of people saying the same thing over and over because they didn't read what the people before them allready posted.

I agree with you that this is one of the rare threads that has an actual discussion in it.

I also agree with this... and I don't really have anything to say about it that hasn't already been said Silly
