www.1and1.com is what I use, cheap too at $7 domain registration + whois protection compared to $15-$20 from godaddy. If you are planning to buy and sell domains, godaddy or other top ranking registrars might be better as they are more likely to allow free and no hassle transfers.

Sigh, it seemed that 1&1 only provide their services to selected countries. Any recommendations for worthy domain registrars with good features at good price ? Appreciate any advice, thanks.

| I wanted to purchase a domain, and I browse at namecheap, godaddy and few others. i notice some of them offer "private domain registration" at very cheap rates e.g. 1and1, on the hand, godaddy charged private domain registration at a price. Btw, according to the domain registrar, "private domain registration" means that they will conceal the real address of the owner to avoid stuff like spamming, data mining etc. Surely, there must be a reason of the price difference, can anyone advise? Thanks. |

I really don't know. Domain names need little if any customer service and there is not really any concern with reliability. I think 1and1 just want to try to lure you into web hosting packages and other extras and make it a bit harder to transfer out making you stay with them. They probably don't like me then!
As for the price difference for domain registrations, that is purely for profit if you ask me. GoDaddy just wants to pick the pockets of those worried about privacy. And yes, private domain registration is who you described it. Some even use a real fake address, phone and email and forward stuff sent there to you without the sender ever discovering your actual details. |
