One of my friend asked me the question
Why French Kissing is called 'French Kissing'? Why not it is 'German or Italian Kissing? What's the real history?
I went through Wiki regarding this got no answer. Wikipedia just explains how to make a French Kiss ha ha ha.

I searched on Google for the origin of the French kiss. It is said that it comes from the idea that the French were sexually liberated.
Have a look at this: http://ask.yahoo.com/20060301.html

Apparently the act of sticking your tongue into the mouth of another person is so intense, your souls intertwine. Hmm, we must be doing it wrong.

Trying so hard to reach the other one's inside, is this the French kiss about?

French Kissing has just become the normal kiss now in my opinion.
I doubt my souls ever intertwined with someone whilst kissing them, ha.

Me neither.

Kissing is not that romantic as it always seems to be so on the movies.

it probably came from medievil times, when people were suppsoed to be chaste etc. If the french were kissing like that in those times, then bingo

"French" kissing involves the insertion of the tongue. However, condoms are often known as French Letters. Is there a connection?

well, the term french letter definately comes from medievil times, when it was used to refer to condoms made from sheep intestine. Don't know the back story behind it though

I've never heard about condoms being called French Letters, but the French are pretty wild in bed so it makes sense for random sexual acts to be named after them.

I'm not sure, but my guess is that it has something to do with the passionate/romantic image of France Wink

It's basically a romantic way to kiss, and since France is very romantic somebody made up 'French kiss'. Like Romantic kiss basically Silly

I had always wondered there what the origin was myself, but never really gave it much thought. I know in my sister's French class her French teacher mentioned that the people in France refer to French kissing as American kissing, which I thought was pretty interesting to say the least. I could see how some of the explanations listed above might fit into where the wording choice originated from. Does that also tie into the theory of when some people swear they ask to pardon their French as well or is that something entirely different? Interesting question however.

I thought French kissing takes two to work, both parties deeply engrossed in wet kissing and I guess its associated with the romantic and passionate people in France.

The word 'liberated' has often been used where 'irresponsible' would have been more correct.
