|
|
My computer never freezes at all, but i've recently downloaded the new Winamp 5.5 which is flipping awesome. It's damned beautiful ha.
Anyways when im using it, my pc will completely freeze up. It never does this, so i know its something in the program that is doing this. I've only allowed it to happen twice (in less then 3 days) before I uninstalled it and reinstalled the older version of winamp.
I love winamp, and the new version is a major update with a lot of new cool features etc, so i really want to use it.
However I cannot find any offical patches for this, or anyone else having the same problem.
To be honest, I don' thave the net at home so i have very limited if any type at all to even check on this.
Is anyone else having this problem?
All my drivers and everything on my PC is up to date. using windows xp professional.
any Ideas? I don't think its a audio card driver problem since its all up todate.
thanks. _________________ http://www.snapcite.com | Are you a music Junkie? if so check out the Music Junkie Ground Zero - > http://www.MJGZ.com

I was thinking of upgrading to Winamp 5.5 theese day. I currently have the 5.35 version. It may be very RAM consuming the new one, Do you have a good PC? _________________ http://martin.com.uy

I used Winamp years ago, and since I have no much songs to listen, it was uninstalled also for years.
Here is a good suggestion, TTplayer. It is a Chinese free software, the only problem is that I can find any English version for you guys.
Here is a very nice future of this program, it can get you the lyric of the song you are listening and show it line by line as it is playing.
Check the website http://wwwcnc.ttplayer.com/index.php if you want to know more about it. And sorry again, it is a Chinese site too. |

My pc is getting old, but it should be good enough to run a simple media player
i have a Pentium 4 2.8ghz pc with 384mb of DDR ram, so it should be fine.
I might try completely uninstalling winamp, and deleting all the files for it, and doing a clean install. Maybe that'll work better. Last time it was just an upgrade. _________________ http://www.snapcite.com | Are you a music Junkie? if so check out the Music Junkie Ground Zero - > http://www.MJGZ.com

Regardless of winamp crashes you need more RAM, especially if you are running Windows XP.
Are you seeing any messages in the Event Logs etc? Any kind of crash reports? Have you ran a memory test to rule out bad RAM? It could very well be winamp, especially if you've had no problems since, and if thats the case you might be SOL until a new patch is released. The best you could do is report a bug to the developers and hope if gets fixed. |

I just wanted to update everyone on this problem. It does not seem to freeze on my Vista. It did on xp, but not with vista. So i assume there were some driver problems or something that caused it to keep freezing my pc before. However I haven't witnessed it on my new pc.
Everything is good. Winamp is king _________________ http://www.snapcite.com | Are you a music Junkie? if so check out the Music Junkie Ground Zero - > http://www.MJGZ.com

Use the modern skin or classic skin. That solves a lot of problems. _________________

I've noticed with some of the new patches/versions they have released that the program is getting more and more demanding not only on RAM, but CPU as well. And I am talking about in the 5.0 series. I downloaded the newest Winamp about 6 months ago and was using it for watching movies, and then about 2 months ago, I got a newer one. I've noticed very big slowdowns in watching movies with the new one, and also that it is taking about a lot more of all my resources. For example, I can skip spots in a movie, but the video will be blank for a couple seconds then catches up with the audio. I guess it could be a codec issue, but I haven't touched my codecs in a long while. I just downloaded the latest one maybe 5 days ago, but the problem remained. Either way, it's getting a lot more complex of a program, and needs a lot more resources than it has in the past. _________________ The Gamer's Journal | Online Portfolio | Half-Life Library |

Yeah they're making it super advanced, which im not sure if its good in some ways.
the new media library on it is a bit confusing and it takes a while to get used to it and notice which little box is showing what. I still prefer the way Windows Media Player does it. I hope they find a better way to display album covers in the winamp library.
I think alot of newer programs will tend to use more and more system resources due to the fact that they are moving up with technology and the newer pc's today come with tons of ram and faster CPU's, which the program should work fine on. So if you have a older pc designed for XP or so it might lag. It sucks, but if they didn't move up in tech we'd be stuck using windows 95 and old programs and stuff, so its good in some ways.
Your problem could also be a video card problem since it usually deals with the video.
Have you tried watching the video in WMP? or another video program? it used to be on my older pc that Winamp didn't play videos very well, so i had to use the crapp WMP at the time, but now videos are fine as long as i dont make them full screen which is odd. _________________ http://www.snapcite.com | Are you a music Junkie? if so check out the Music Junkie Ground Zero - > http://www.MJGZ.com

If you need performance at playing media on old computers. A port of mplayer is available for pretty much every OS. GUI tools are available as well. And actually I advise against using winamp to play videos. Best choice is VLC Media Player or Mediaplayer Classic. _________________
