I am currently watching ECW as I'm typing, and the main event seems to be okay. New Breed vs the Originals in an 8-man elimination match. It looks like they're gonna do a Punk-Burke angle during that match.
I didn't watch all of Raw, and only caught the 2nd hour. The Cena-Michaels match took up the whole hour. It was a pretty good match (from what I saw*), but many people seem to be overrating it. The first 10 minutes was pretty boring (which was just spent doing tie-ups and pushes to stall for time. That part was so boring, that it literally put me to sleep (which explanis the asterisk* I placed a few sentences ago). But when I woke up in the last 10 minutes, the match was pretty good. The finish was great too, and that should have been the finish they had in Wrestlemania, in my opinion.
TNA Impact for this week has a pretty big match, with Kurt Angle vs Sting for the title shot against Christian in Sacrifice. But knowing TNA, it will probably be rushed, and may not be as promising as it would be.
Not sure if this piece of news was broken in this forum as of yet, but TNA may be dropping the NWA World and Tag Team Titles, and replacing them with TNA titles. I'm not sure what to think of this. Dropping the NWA name might lower the quality of the championships, but with TNA putting only their names in the belt will surely make them a more credible promotion.
I'm gonna make my Backlash predictions later this week. _________________ [img:5f924247e9]http://obecorp.com.ru/banner.gif[/img:5f924247e9] |

I saw ECW and the whole Punk thing for me seems to have been a bit weird. I really haven't liked the angle with him so far, first he is a bad guy, then he is a good guy. With all the new ECW guys it seems that everything isn't as good as it used to be. I think it would have been better if the rules would have stayed the same and they kept some of the old people and not added so many of the New Breed.
On Raw, I watched most of it and the only thing I can say is that I was pretty happy about the turnout with Cena and Michaels. I can say that it honestly has been a long time since I have seen Cena lose fair and square to someone and if it was going to be someone, I'm glad it was Michaels. It was overall a nice match that I thought was going to be intense and it turned out to be a pretty nice match. I do think pretty much any match Cena is in, the match is pretty boring, but Michaels basically put the whole show on, so it was a pretty decent match. I think this match was by far better than the one they had at Wrestlemania.
With Smackdown, I'm looking forward to see the dynamics between Undertaker and Batista. With their match at Wrestlemania, that was the best match I have seen from WWE in a long time. Undertaker and Batista in my opinion had the best match the both of them have had in a long time. I know this is awkward, but I'm actually more on Batista's side in this feud, but I am loving the feud with Taker and Batista and actually can't wait to see Kennedy and Finlay added in. Those four have great dynamics and I just can't wait until Backlash when I see Taker and Batista go up at it.
TNA impact I am looking forward to because it's two great wrestlers, two names that will forever go down in history as some of the greatests. I'm a Kurt angle mark so for me, this match is going to be great. Sure, they probably will do something to screw up the match, but I know I am looking forward to see this. Angle and Sting for the chance to win the title sounds great to me. I can't wait to see the match at the next PPV, but I am loving Christian Cage. He has the best attitude and character and I think it's pretty great. Seeing the interactions between him and Tomko makes you wonder what's next.
After seeing Smackdown on Friday, I will probably be more certain about who will be winning at Backlash. |

I might as well post some Backlash predictions, since I have to get my PBPP up, and it's almost the end of the month. Here are my predictions for the matches they have announced so far, winners in bold
Melina (c) vs Mickie James: Women's Championship
Mickie will probably win this because of the supposed heat that Melina has backstage. But, a lot of people don't know, that Mickie James actually won the championship in the Europe tour, but lost it quickly that same night. I'm not sure if they'll recognize that.
Chris Benoit (c) vs MVP: United States Championship
During the past couple of months, it seems like they have been pampering MVP to be the next guy to get a decent push. As much as I like Benoit, he will probably lose the title here.
Hardys (c) vs Cade & Murdoch: Raw Tag Titles
Cade and Murdoch has always been a solid tag-team, and they're getting a pretty decent push now. But, I don't see them winning. The Hardys won't lose the belts so soon.
I'm gonna pick the 3 world championship matches on the next post... _________________ [img:5f924247e9]http://obecorp.com.ru/banner.gif[/img:5f924247e9] |

Backlash Predictions (cont'd)
Bobby Lashley (c) vs Umaga, Vince, Shane McMahon: ECW Championship - 3 on 1 Handicap match
Since they are booking Lashley to be Superman, he will walk out the winner here. I am thinking there will be a few good spots by Shane, but other than that, I could probably do without this match.
Undertaker (c) vs Batista: World Heavyweight Championship (Smackdown)
Taker will win this, since he can't win the belt in Wrestlemania, and lose it in less than a month. But, if he doesn't win this, it will be a draw, with both men not being able to answer the 10-count. But, since they had a pretty good match in Wrestlemania, since this is supposed to be better, it should be an entertaining match. Could possibly steal the show.
John Cena (c) vs Shawn Michaels vs Edge vs Randy Orton: WWE Championship (Raw)
I'm pretty sure Cena would win this. I think theory holds true most of the time, that the superstar who usually lose momentum in the show before the PPV will usually win. Cena and Michaels had a good match at Raw, but since there are two others in the match, I don't see them duplicating it. It should still be a pretty good match to watch nonetheless. Since Orton probably is currently on the hotseat, I see him probably doing the job.
These are the matches they have so far. I'm not sure if they plan to add Deuce and Domino vs Kendrick and London for a Smackdown Tag Title rematch. What baffles me is that Mr. Kennedy isn't on the card. He's the Money in the Bank winner, and being pedigreed as the future of the company. So, his talent deserves to be showcased. _________________ [img:5f924247e9]http://obecorp.com.ru/banner.gif[/img:5f924247e9] |

My Backlash picks:
Melina over Mickie James (I doubt Melina will lose the title just yet, the whole 2 title change thing in Paris was a mistake by the referee I believe.
Hardys over Cade+Murdoch: why is WWE giving Hardys easy opponents for PPV?
Benoit over MVP: The match should be decent, but I dont see MVP as champ just yet.
Umaga+McMahons over Lashley: Come on now, Lashley shouldn't win this... no matter what. Beating 3 men is a bit much for the Lashley character in my opinion.
Undertaker over Batista
Shawn Michaels over John Cena, Orton+Edge to win the title.
6 matches for a PPV seems a bit small to me. I think a last minute cruiserweight match or something might be added. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

The Sting/Kurt Angle match was a dud. It didn't even go 3 minutes, as it ended with a run in by Cage, Tomko+Steiner. It was the opening mathc, then the main event of Sting/Cage was pretty short as well. This type of garbage hurts TNA. If you are going to promote a dream match: then have it happen! I somehow can imagine a rematch will take place on PPV. It's pretty rare to have decent dream matches on free TV usually. A dream match and a main event with little time hurts the show even more.
The big Memphis show is tonight, I expect it to do somewhat good (but would've done better if Lawler and WWE stars were on it like originally planned). The main event is Hogan vs Paul Wight. Some of the other matches include: Buff Bagwell vs Brian Christopher, Greg Valentine vs Mr Hughes and Barbabian vs Moondog Cujo.
In WWE news, a 2-disc ladder match DVD set is coming out later this year. I'm a bit ticked there is only 2 non-WWE ladder matches on the whole set. Plus the Shawn Michaels/Razor Ramon match from Wrestlemania 10 is just clips: not the full match. Here is the full lineup:
| Quote: | Jake Roberts vs. Big Daddy Ritter (better known as Junk Yard Dog) from Stampede Wrestling in 1979 for the North American title.
Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels 1992
Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon 1995 SummerSlam match
HHH vs. Rock 1998 SummerSlam match
New Brood vs. Edge & Christian 1999 No Mercy
Edge & Christian vs. Dudleys vs. Hardys 2000 Summer Slam TLC match
Shannon Moore & Shane Helms vs. Jamie Noble & Evan Karagis vs. Kaz Hayashi & Jimmy Yang 12/17/00 dying days of WCW
Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho 2001 Royal Rumble
Hardys vs. Dudleys vs. Edge & Christian Wrestlemania 17
Jericho & Benoit vs. Hardys vs. Dudleys vs. Edge & Christian (Smackdown match where Benoit injured his neck and was out for a year)
Edge vs. Christian 2001 No Mercy
RVD vs. Eddie Guerrero Raw 2002
Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy Raw 2002
Kane & Hurricane vs. RVD & Jeff Hardy vs. Bubba & Spike Dudley vs Jericho & Christian Raw 2002
Jericho vs. Christian Unforgiven 2004
Jericho vs. Benoit vs. Benjamin vs. Edge vs. Christian vs. Kane in first ever Money in the Bank match
Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero for custody of Dominick with debut of Vickie Guerrero as a character 2005 SummerSlam
Matt Hardy vs. Edge loser leaves town from Raw 2005
Ric Flair vs. Edge TLC match 2006 Raw
John Cena vs. Edge TLC match 2006 Unforgiven
Jeff Hardy vs. Johnny Nitro 2006 Raw
London & Kendrick vs. Regal & Taylor vs. MNM vs. Hardys Armageddon 2006 |
A good lineup, but it certainly should've had more non-WWE ladder matches. ECW had some I believe, they could've found one at least to put on. At least they got the WCW ladder match right, as that was a very entertaining match. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

I too was really disappointed with the Sting-Angle match yesterday. If they advertise a dream match such as that, it should have been a lot better than it actually was, regardless if it was free TV or PPV. In fact, the whole Impact show yesterday was kind of a disappointment. The Sting-Christian main event wasn't long either, and the Bobby Roode-Eric Young-Jeff Jarrett segment seemed to have dragged on for a while (even though, I would say that that segment was really important to the development of Eric Young's character).
I also heard about the "ladder match" DVD. From what was posted up there, it does look like a really good lineup. As far as it not having non-WWE ladder matches, it is somewhat understandable. WCW had a few ladder entertaining ladder matches (especially featuring the cruserweights), but I wouldn't say that they were really as noteworthy as many of the WWE ladder matches featured listed there (for example, I wouldn't consider the "tazer" ladder match between Goldberg/Scott Hall noteworthy). As far as ECW, they've had a few "Stairway to Hell" matches (which is sort of like a ladder match, but not quite), and I can't remember any ladder matches with the title. And the reason why I think they wouldn't be showing the full match between the classic HBK vs Razor Ramon WM X match is because from what I understand, it's probably already well-featured in the Intercontinental Championship DVD. _________________ [img:5f924247e9]http://obecorp.com.ru/banner.gif[/img:5f924247e9] |

Is there a new I.C title DVD, or are you talking about the VHS re-release that came out on DVD not too long ago? The recent I.C title DVD was poor, and I'm pretty sure it didn't have that ladder match.
I was 4 for 6 in my Backlash picks. I must say the draw for Undertaker/Batista was stupid. Undertaker/Batista as the main event in a gimmick match (my guess is hell in a cell), and another Cena/Michaels are the likely top matches for Judgment Day.
On Raw tonight, Mr. Kennedy claimed he would wait until Wrestlemania 24 to cash in his title shot. I doubt that's what will happen though.
In other WWE news: Mark Henry returns this week on Smackdown. Hopefully he fights someone on Smackdown, and not just some random local jobber for his first match back (if he even wrestles that is). _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

I was talking about the IC Title DVD that came out recently. You were right, the Michaels/Razor match wasn't there. The reason I might have thought that because Michaels was prominently featured in that DVD, plus cover featured the title suspended like it was in the ladder match. So, my mistake.
I was way off with a lot of my Backlash picks. I would say though, that this was actually one of the better PPVs that WWE put out. For being one of the "bottom feeder", PPVs it actually delivered, with 4 out of 6 being quality matches (with the only exceptions being the women's match and the ECW match).
As far as McMahon being the champ, I believe it can actually help the ECW product. They can take this storyline to several angles, and make it interesting. I'm thinking he won't hold the belt decently long, I hope.
According to some reports, the Undertaker was injured during Backlash, and may unfortunately end his expected long run with the title prematurely. He injured his bicep. I'm hoping that the injury isn't as bad as it appears to be, and he won't have to give up the belt. He deserves more than a 1-1.5 month run. _________________ [img:5f924247e9]http://obecorp.com.ru/banner.gif[/img:5f924247e9] |

Undertaker needs surgery, so his reign is over. Next week is probably when Batista will win the title from him. I dont see WWE having the belt on anyone else yet.
The whole Cena/Khali feud is stupid. They hype Michaels/Cena for a while, and then it just suddenly ends, so Khali can feud with Cena.
In other news: ECW December to Dismember has been cancelled as a PPV. Hopefully this is just the start of PPVs ending. In my opinion: 12 is more than enough.
In TNA news: Sacrifice is shaping up to be average and nothing more or less.
Matches so far:
-World champ Christian Cage vs Kurt Angle vs Sting: as of now, I don't see Cage losing the title. If a title change happens, it will be in June at Slammiversary during "King of the Mountain".
-X champ Chris Sabin vs Jay Lethal vs Sonjay Dutt: should be alright, but the X division is certainly getting worse. On Impact: Daniels gets destroyed by two tag teams that were in a match, plus the whole Bob Backlund storyline of him finding the title and then fighting with Sabin?! Give me a break. This is crap.
-Chris Harris vs James Storm (Deathmatch): Could be okay, but I hope this is the end of the feud. Partner Harris with Williams, and Storm with someone... and help out the tag division.
-Jeff Jarrett vs Robert Rude: Sticking Jarrett in the mid-card isn't helping things. He returns as a main event face, then goes to mid-card? Doesn't make much sense.
-Tag champs Team 3-D vs LAX vs Scott Steiner+Tomko: What exactly have Steiner+Tomko done to earn a title shot? I would rather have a 3-D/LAX match again.
-Christy Hemme's team vs VKM: I know the identity of the team, it could be decent. Hopefully VKM gets the loss.
Hopefully Slammiversary in June will be better than this. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

Bad news for Mr. Kennedy: he is injured and will be out at least 6 months. That is why he lost his Money in the Bank title shot to Edge. In my opinion: they shouldn't have had him lose it (or he should've lost to a Smackdown wrestler). Losing to a Raw wrestler makes Smackdown just look weak.
So Smackdown is certainly lacking now that they are missing King Booker, Undertaker and now Mr. Kennedy. Perhaps this will give Benoit another chance in the main event. Other possible main event choices: JBL, MVP, Matt Hardy and so on. Hopefully it's not just random people to feed to Batista, until Undertaker returns or whatever.
I cant believe Cena is now going to face Khali for the title at Judgment Day. What a joke. I can understand new main eventers: but Khali shouldn't be the newest one.
In TNA news, it looks like Ricky Banderas will be the wrestler managed by James Mitchell to feud with Abyss in the future. I havent seen Ricky wrestle before, but from what I've read he seems alright.
Other TNA news: Sean Waltman is looking to return, but nothing has been confirmed yet. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

In WWE news: Edge is the new World champ of Smackdown. This was first mentioned on Tuesday on ECW (I guess WWE wanted to get people to watch the title change, I'm not sure if it helped or not). Edge beat Undertaker by using his Money in the Bank title shot (right after Undertaker went to a draw with Batista in a cage match, then Mark Henry assaulted him).
I think this was a bad move, it's safe to say Batista could win the title at Judgment Day. Edge wont have a long title reign, thats for sure. I would like him to have one, he certainly deserves it..but I just dont see it happening. Batista will regain, with Undertaker getting a decent title reign when he returns (hopefully...)
In other WWE news, Mr. Kennedy's injury isn't as bad as originally thought. He should be back in about 8 weeks or so. Upon his return he could feud with Edge.
In TNA news: Sacrifice is tonight. It looks alright, but it has too many 3-way/4-way matches. 9 matches (possibly 8, as one could be the pre-show match): three 3-way matches, and one 4-way match. I think the crowd will get bored during them, especially since the tag 3-way isn't that great.
In other wrestling news: Ring of Honor will be coming to PPV in July 1. They taped it yesterday. I wonder why they couldn't do it live (or a taping closer to the event at least). All TNA talent has been pulled from the company due to this happening. I suppose Ring of Honor could work on PPV, but we will see. They have enough fans and good attendance for the shows now, so this could make them a contender down the line. I believe the plan is 1 PPV every 3 months for Ring of Honor. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

Lots of big wrestling news and it's only been a few days since my last post here!
First up: TNA news. They are no longer part of the NWA, which caused them to make new belts. Rick Steiner returned to TNA at Sacrifice, and it's heavily rumored the Steiners will face Team 3-D in a dream match of sorts at Slammiversary. I would've been interested in this: years ago... but now, it's just a poor attempt by TNA to get some old school fans back into wrestling. Both teams are way past their prime, it probably wont be that great.
In WWE news, Sabu+Vito are the newest released stars. I agree with Vito's release more, as I didn't find him talented. The whole dress wearing gimmick was lame, and certainly stunk up too much Smackdown time.
Judgment Day is this Sunday, it looks alright. I will have a preview with my picks later in the week. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

The NWA announcement was well anticipated for a few months now. In fact, I'm pretty sure I made mention of it in this forum. But, I think it's pretty cool that TNA finally has their own belts. From looking at the belts, they look pretty good. Their world title belt, I think, looks like a mix of the old WWF Winged Eagle Belt, and the Big Gold. It's also big for TNA that they have their own belts, because now that the NWA name is not on the belt, they own the licensing for the belts, and can start selling replica belts. That usually is a pretty big money maker for WWE, and should hopefully help TNA a little bit.
As far as Edge being champion on Smackdown, I think it's great. This will open up many new feuds on Smackdown, and should make some entertaining television. His next program is with Batista, and it looks decent. Maybe this might be a short feud, but, I'm guessing it will at least go a few weeks, before Batista moves into a program with Henry. I for one, am probably looking forward to a possible Matt Hardy/Edge feud in Summerslam. Matt Hardy has had some good matches during the past few weeks, and I'm thinking his main event spotlight is eventually gonna come (though I don't think they're gonna give him the belt).
It kind of stinks though that Kennedy had to drop the briefcase. What I think they should do, is they should continue to push Kennedy to top card status, and eventually have him still challenge for the title in Wrestlemania, as what the WWE originally hyped.
As far as Sabu getting fired, it sucks, but we all knew it was gonna happen sooner or later. Since RVD's contract is just about up (on August), I'm sure he will be soon to follow. If in fact RVD doesn't re-sign with the WWE, I think he should still give his fans there a few memorable matches.
Judgement Day looks alright, though many would argue that Cena-Khali may be the worst main event ever. Even worse, there's a possibility that Cena may drop the belt to Khali. We'll see what happens. _________________ [img:5f924247e9]http://obecorp.com.ru/banner.gif[/img:5f924247e9] |
