With Summerslam approaching, I'm sure there might be some good matches, but my opinions of the matches are:

John Cena vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship): Honestly, in this match I'm going to pick John Cena. I know that there have been rumors of John Cena possibly leaving, but I have not seen a pay per view where Cena has lost, so I'm picking John Cena in the long run to pick the safe win. This feud hasn't been very much impressive to me and I don't really like either guy, but overall it might be a good match with some decent charisma with it.

Triple H vs. King Booker: After Triple H's big return from being gone so long, I would point out that it's obvious Triple H will be the winner. People have been waiting for him to come back so I'm assuming that he will make his big return and come in strong with a first win over King Booker.

The Great Khali vs. Batista (WHC) : In this match, I'm 100% behind Batista. I see him going all the way because of the way Khali has continued to take him down. Batista has had a solid 6 losses and I think this will be the match where not only will he break the claw, but I also feel that he is going to go all the way and become the champ.

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero: Another person coming back and making a big appearance, so ultimately, they had Chavo be the one that took out Rey Mysterio, so I think Rey will come out with the big win.

John Morrison vs. CM Punk: I see John Morrison just coming out at the end of this match again, there is no use in not winning. I can't see CM Punk finally getting the thing he has been searching out for.

Umaga vs. Carlito vs. Mr. Kennedy: I see Mr. Kennedy taking this one right here. He is in my opinion one of the best performers in this match with a great amount of charisma and would make a great champ. He's the biggest character in that match and I see him taking the title.

Kane vs. Finlay: I somehow see the Irish fighter coming out in the long run. I can see him taking the match and cheating Kane of the win. That would seem like the most logical way I've seen Finlay winning lately.

---

Now away from WWE, I've been thinking about TNA and I'm the type of person that happens to like TNA just as much as I do WWE. I personally think that TNA has been great lately, but the only thing I've had problems with is the fact that Kurt Angle has every single belt. I'm a huge Kurt Angle mark and I think the guy deserves the belt, but not every single one. What does everyone else think?

WWE Summerslam was a decent PPV, but certainly not "WWE big-4" worthy. It had a few entertaining spots and skits, and some of the matches were okay. Here are just a few thoughts that I had...

We all knew Rey and HHH will not lose their return matches, so in that manner, it was pretty predictable. However, those matches in itself were pretty good. The crowd seemed into them, and that's what really matters. Physically, Rey does look like he's been out of action for a while (he's a little chunky).

Diva battle royal. I think it was pretty obvious Beth Phoenix will win. It seemed like he was the top woman to be getting the push at the moment.

I don't see why they don't give the ECW championship to Punk already! Don't get me wrong, I think that Johnny Morrison is talented, but as of now, he was just thrown in to be champion, and doesn't really hold the credibility to hold the title. They seem to be building his credibility with him holding the title though, which I don't really agree with that much, because that way, with Punk losing to him so much, they are kind of holding him back. Plus, they didn't give this match nearly enough time. I felt their 15 minutes of fame match in free TV was a lot better. But, since this wasn't a clean win, the feud will continue.

The IC Title match could have been really good, but it could've been a lot better. I had a feeling Umaga was gonna win, to build his credibility as a babyface main-eventer. I feel Raw is lacking in baby-face maineventers.

Batista-Khali worst match of the night, with a bad ending. The fued will continue though. Somehow, I feel Khali will keep the belt until Undertaker takes it from him (maybe Survivor Series?), which stinks.

Cena-Orton was the match of the night. Many thought Orton was gonna win, but I feel that they made the right decision for keeping the belt on Cena. Orton did trash a hotel room not too long ago, and if he is rewarded the top title, it may send the wrong message backstage. There is a return match on Raw tonight, I heard. May be interesting to see how this goes.

Overall, this PPV was okay. It could have been a lot better though, I thought.

Personally, I think TNA has been disappointing. I always believed they had a great product, but lately, I haven't agreed in the direction they have been going in. They are starting to look like WWE in many aspects, focusing a lot more on skits and storylines, rather on wrestling and athleticism (which is what got them in the map on the first place). Also, I don't agree with how they are using Kurt Angle. I like Angle, but he shouldn't have all the belts. He is also taking up all of this TV time, with all the soap opera storylines he and his wife have been having. Not to mention, I've said before that he should be used to put over "homegrown" talent like Samoa Joe. Instead, it seems like Joe is being buried, despite the fact that he was really built up well during his year and a half undefeated streak. This may result to Joe leaving TNA when his contract is up, which will really be a shame, since he's a big factor to why TNA was recognized by many fans. In fact, I don't agree with TNA pushing a lot of former WWE talent over their homegrown talent (aka Christian Cage, Test, etc).

TNA is good, but they should be a lot better than they should be. They are really talented (in my opinion, their roster is more talented than the WWE's overall roster), and they even have a few big names (like Sting and Kurt Angle). They even threw a lot of money to Adam "Pacman" Jones. But, after all of that they have remained stagnant ever since they've been on Spike, never getting over a 1.2 rating, and never doing more than 75,000 PPV buys (they normally average 25K-50K buys). The old ECW had ratings that were as good, if not better, than what TNA has now, and it was on a weaker network (TNN back then) on a less favorable timeslot (on Friday night).

Like I said before, if TNA is gonna compete with the WWE, the best way they can is if they can be an "alternative". But, since they look like they are starting to turn WWE-ish, I don't see them getting better.

No title changes at Summerslam ticked me off. I guess it's Vince's plan to tick people off, and not care if they are happy or not. I'm sure many fans are happy with Cena as champ still: but Khali and Morrison certainly shouldn't have lost their titles. A DQ win by Batista at a big PPV such as Summerslam is a joke. The PPV seemed rushed to me, from reports I've read. This was the 20th Summerslam: did WWE ever mention this? From what I've heard and read, I don't think they did. Milestones don't mean much anymore I guess. I can bet a DVD box set for Summerslam will come out though (as WM and Royal Rumble had sets at 20 I believe). So I guess that's a good thing. All the early Summerslams havent been on DVD in the US yet.

With Undertaker's return at Unforgiven on September 16: I would think the PPV should be built up well. Perhaps that's when titles will change? As I know, WWE has been trying to make all events seem special (even though they don't turn out that way).

Dan Rodman has been released by WWE. He was on Heat a few times, and I don't think he ever appeared on Raw. He had talent, but wasn't given a fair chance in my view. He seems like a cost cutting measure, so Vince can throw away money on more no talents like Big Daddy V.

Can I ask a quick question. It may have been answered somewhere in here already, couldn't see it though.

I notice the title of the thread is WWE Wrestling. What ever happened to WWF? That's what it was named when I was a kid, granted I haven't seen it in 15 years or so, but why the name change?

The World Wrestling Federation were sued by the World Wildlife Fund (who existed first) in 2000, the wrestling organisation had violated an earlier agreement to limit the use of the initials.

A British court ( we are good people sometimes) ruled that Titan Entertainment had used the WWF brand illegally in overseas merchandising. The WWF then stealthily changed their URL etc. to WWE (world wrestling entertainment.

The brand was safe, wrestlers could continue to afford steroids. Oh and yeah.... some endangered species were probably saved.

Makes you proud to be British!!

wikipedia wrote:
Abandonment of the initialism did not end the two organizations' legal conflict. Later in 2002, the Wildlife Fund petitioned the court for $360 million in damages, but the wrestling company prevailed. A subsequent request to overturn by the Wildlife Fund was dismissed by the English Court of Appeals on June 28, 2007. In 2003, World Wrestling Entertainment won a limited decision which permitted them to continue marketing certain preexisting products with the abandoned WWF logo. However, the wrestling company was obliged to issue newly-branded merchandise such as apparel, action figures, video games, and DVDs with the "WWE" initials. Additionally, the court order required the company to remove both spoken and visual references to "WWF" in its library of video footage (which spans several decades).

The PPV seemed rushed to me, from reports I've read.

I have a feeling Vince probably likes to piss off the "smart" fans, as well as the fans who think they are "smart". The only non-title change that I didn't really get was the ECW title match, since CM Punk really deserves the belt, and I thought it was probably the best timing for him to win the title in a "huge event" like Summerslam. Because he didn't win it in SS, and he lost his 3rd title shot, I don't know when it will actually be best for him to win the title anymore. Their match @ SS was really rushed too. But, it seems like that Punk will get another shot, since he will wrestle for another contender spot in a 4-way match in ECW tommorrow. As far as the other title non-changes go, it didn't really piss me off that bad. Even though I dread Khali with the belt, do we really want to see Batista with the belt again? He's been in a World title match in almost all PPVs this year. As far as Cena, he's the company's most over guy, and he's put on some solid matches this year. Even though a lot don't like him, him having the title doesn't really bother me anymore.

From what I heard, Undertaker's next feud will be against Mark Henry during Unforgiven, and he will supposedly be ending his career (since Henry's contract expires in a few weeks). I'm thinking this will immediately vault him back into contention for him to win his title again.

Mark Henry is leaving WWE? I didn't know that.

I hope Unforgiven is where Batista wins the title. I seriously doubt Khali can hold the title more. Even if Vince wants to tick off fans, someone as horrible as Khali can't remain as champ.

Khali to Batista to Undertaker seems like the logicial thing to do, however if Vince changes it up...I wouldn't be surprised at this point. Frankly, WWE needs more randomness instead of just predictable things. So perhaps Vince is being smart in some cases at least.

Highlanders might go to Smackdown, to improve the tag division there. Eh... they seem alright, but not that great. I can imagine Highlanders/Jesse+Festus feuding or being friends in some storyline. IF Jesse and Festus actually wrestle this time. I remember promos for them aired a bit ago: then it was delayed. I believe before they were "The Daltons", and now they are simply Jesse+Festus.

BREAKING NEWS!!! 10 Wrestlers have been suspended stemming from violations of the wellness policy.

I'm not gonna comment on this as of yet, because there's really not much info (just heresay and speculation) regarding this as of yet and the WWE hasn't officially released any names and full details... but just from reading the headline and the WWE press release, this is really HUGE!!! But just to get the gist of it, a company called Signature Pharmacy has allegedly been issuing illegitimate prescriptions (some of which are steroids) to some of the wrestlers, as well as other athletes.

But from what I read, some of these guys who are rumored to be the ones who are suspended are really big names, and integral to their respective shows. Just a few of the names who are rumored to be part of this "scandal" are Randy Orton, Umaga, John Morrison, and Kennedy. A few of the other rumored names are pretty big too.

All I know, is if in fact there is any truth to what I've read, this will change the WWE A LOT!! On the storyline front, they will be hurting BIG TIME. More importantly, on a long-term standpoint, their foundations will be tremendously rocked and the whole wrestling business in general is gonna be in worse shape than it already is.

I believe the list of suspended include Randy Orton, Umaga, William Regal and others. I know there was a list somewhere, but I can't remember the rest. In non-related firings: Eugene and Cryme Tyme are gone now. Cryme Tyme apparently were in an incident with Cade and Murdoch at the Raw taping, which caused that firing.

The suspensions will hurt WWE, but I'm sure they can move on. There is plenty of talent left, that they can shift focus to.

On Smackdown on Friday: MVP and Matt Hardy won the tag titles. I dont agree with this, as Deuce+Domino are a regular team, while MVP and Hardy aren't. The "tag partners that hate each other" storyline has been done enough over the years. They deserved a longer tag title reign, until decent contenders were made. Instead it's all just part of the MVP/Hardy feud.

From watching Raw last night, it seemed like some of the people who were on that suspension list may have been "written out" for the next 30 days (ie: Umaga, William Regal, Santino Marella, etc). Also, since CM Punk won the ECW title in the TV taping, it looks like they may have written off Johnny Morrison as well. Some of the people in the suspension list like Edge and Gregory Helms, are currently recuperating from their injuries, so that really isn't hurting them.

There are at least 1 or 2 people from the list who will NOT get suspended. Kennedy might be one of those people. But, it's pretty much confirmed that Orton will NOT be suspended. Apparently, reports are saying that he fessed up in the past and did his time already in a previous suspension. If he was suspended it would hurt the product, since he's in a high profile feud with Cena. But, if the WWE didn't suspend him just because of his current high profile feud, that would be pretty hypocritical.

These suspensions wouldn't really hurt them from a talent standpoint, nor not so much from a storyline standpoint anymore (since Orton isn't suspended, and it's confirmed that Kennedy isn't the illegitimate son), but it will probably hurt a lot from a business standpoint, with Congress passing something that can really hurt the wrestling business. I'm for cleaning up the wrestling business, and possibly give the wrestlers an off-season, but if Congress passes something that severely interferes with the wrestling business, to the point that it would be detrimental, it would be wrong. Right now, the WWE and their Wellness Policy is not looking good, showing that 10 wrestlers were able to circumvent it for a while, before they got suspended.

I will say though CM Punk winning the ECW Title is good on many fronts. Not only is he deserving (as I've said many times before), but because of this current drug scandal, it's good that someone with a straight-edge gimmick/lifestyle is getting a top spot. It would have been better if he won it in Summerslam though, when it actually meant more.

In TNA news: Andrew Martin has been released, as well as Jerry Lynn. Lynn surprised me, as I thought they would keep him around. He is older, but still has the talent to wrestle sometimes. He could've remained as an agent at least (the job he had before he returned to wrestling).

No Surrender is this Sunday. The card looks decent for the most part. I think the show will open up with the 10-team Gauntlet match (which I can imagine Team 3-D or LAX will win). Angle defends all 3 titles: I can see him losing the X title at least. It would be stupid for Sting and Angle to lose the tag titles to Pacman Jones and Ron Killings. I don't see Abyss as the one that wins the world title from Angle.

In WWE news: London and Kendrick won the tag gold in South Africa. They still have the gold currently, but I wouldn't be surprised at Cade+Murdoch getting the gold back before the next Raw.

No Surrender just took place, it seemed alright...but nothing special. The big news out of it: they finally announced Impact will be 2 hours starting October 4th. Ron Killings and Pacman Jones won the tag titles: I guess TNA is that desperate, that they need a football star as a champion to get more media attention. Angle also lost his X title to Jay Lethal, however he did retain his World title by making Abyss submit. Hopefully with Impact being 2 hours, they can put on decent X division and tag matches on more of a regular basis.

In WWE news: King Booker is apparently gone from the company now. Story from Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

Quote:
Dave Meltzer reports that Robert Huffman (King Booker) quit WWE when he was told that he was to be suspended for 60 days, as a punishment to the Signature Pharmacy bust. He was believed to have failed a Wellness Program test before, hence the 60 days suspension instead of 30.

While WWE is still trying to negotiate Huffman's staying with them, they're going on under the impression he's done. The two sides had been having troubles recently, with a major setback being John Laurinaitis' call to go with Florida for a developmental territory - where WWE would start from scratch - instead of going with Booker's already established PWA, which WWE had been loaning wrestlers to. After they made the call to stop that, Booker went to his friends at TNA and booked them for his shows instead, which didn't sit so well with anyone backstage, but they couldn't say much having pulled WWE talent from PWA.

Booker is pretty much set financially and has wanted out of wrestling for a while. At age 42, he's accomplished a lot, and thanks to his hip hop store doing well in Houston, and his two wrestling schools up and running, there's really no need for him to stick around.

Booker was a talented wrestler, but it seems a bit too simple: he didn't want to serve his punishment, so he quit. It seems like both sides are to blame for him leaving though. I would assume his wife Sharmell (Queen Sharmell) left the company as well.

I didn't watch No Surrender, but from what I heard, I heard it's at least somewhat of an improvement from Hard Justice. But, I am glad that they finally made the 2 hour timeslot official. This is big for TNA, because this really could help them out. But, the thing is, now that they have 2 hours, they better use that time very wisely and efficiently. I'm afraid that if we can get an indication of how the Impact with 2 hours would be will be to look at the PPVs. And the TNA PPVs this year have not really been that strong imo, most especially 2 of the more recent ones, like Hard Justice and Victory Road. If TNA makes their fans pay for crap, then imagine how their free TV would be. One of TNAs main complaints was that Impact was rushed, thus ratings and buyrates suffer. Now, that that problem is fixed, they have no excuses to not improve their product to increase ratings and buyrates, in order for them to really start competing with the WWE.

As far as King Booker being released, this would be one of those news items that I won't believe until the WWE mentions it in their website, even if Dave Meltzer reports it. Last week, a big story was Ric Flair apparently quitting the WWE because he wasn't happy with his direction, but it doesn't look like that happened. But, if Booker did decide to leave, it would be understandable. He did do a lot for the business, but he really wouldn't need it anymore. He may have gotten lost in the shuffle anyway.

Other notable news, London and Kendrick won the tag titles from Cade and Murdoch over the weekend, in a house show, but later lost it back to them that same weekend. I'm really hoping they will do some good things with this feud. London and Kendrick are pretty deserving of their spot, and with Cryme Tyme gone, the tag team division really needs a boost. Cryme Tyme being released was pretty bad timing, since they were really starting to get over with the fans.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: the suspended WWE stars are Edge, John Morrison, William Regal, Chavo Guerrero, Gregory Helms, Mr. Kennedy, Chris Masters, Umaga, Charlie Haas and Funaki. I'm surprised Funaki was on the list: as he wasn't even a regular wrestler. He wrestles once in a while on Smackdown. I'm a bit surprised Batista isn't suspended, it seems a bit clear he is on something. For a while now: I've thought his muscles look a bit unnatural.

Vince's son was revealed on Raw: it was Hornswoogle. They were playing up that Triple H was the son, but did a swerve. Good riddance to a dumb storyline. Hopefully they don't waste time with comedy segments with Vince and Hornswoogle on Smackdown and/or Raw.

In other WWE news: the diva search apparently wont be in stupid segments on television this year. It appears to be online only, with voting by text or online. This is helpful to get some garbage off the shows.

At the Impact tapings earlier tonight: another ex-WWE star has debuted with the company. I doubt this wrestler will last a while in the company.
