I'm looking for a WYSIWYG HTML Editor that doesn't change the fundamental code of a template.
I've designed a CSS reliant template for a friend who have very little HTML/CSS knowledge (outside of the minimal basics). We've tried using NVU so she can update the page easily, but we ran into spacing problems. It turned out that when you import a stylesheet into NVU, it changes some of your code in order to "better conform" to the program. In the process, it can actually change parts of your design.
Does anyone know an editor that doesn't change the formatting? Or better yet, does anyone know how to make NVU stick to the established formatting instead of updating it? |

A friend of mine informed me of Kompozer, saying it was very good. I don't know if it will do what you need, but you could take a look at it. It appears to be based on NVU, but supposedly fixes a bunch of bugs that NVU has (maybe the one mentioned above.) Sorry I couldn't be of more help. _________________ There is no good or evil, there is only the flute -- and those too weak to play it |

You might try Amaya. It's developed by the W3C, so it should be pretty good at doing what you want. It's not a straight WYSIWYG editor. The HTML editor part is packaged inside a web browser so you can browse and edit sites at the same time.
Alternately, you might try looking at a WYSIWYM editor (what you see is what you mean). They're supposed to be a little better at preserving your exact markup. Unfortunately, I can't find any programs like that you can download. They all appear to be web-based, for use in content management systems and the like. You could try out LyX, which is more of a word processor, but it might be used for HTML editing. I haven't tried it out to be sure. _________________ "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." --Thomas Jefferson

He wasn't asking for anything like that but for a program.
Anyway, I guess I can recommend with dreamweaver. It also has supports to synchronize parts of the pages like the menus. That's really a nice feature.
I'm not sure if there's any free/open source alternative for dreamweaver. _________________ My new site
