Well, it looks as if Yahoo! is sticking to its guns and rebuffing the Evil Empire's takeover attempt. The ball is in Microsoft's court now. Nobody seems to think that this is a good deal except for Microsoft. Yahoo! says that M$ isn't offering enough money but in reality Microsoft is offering more money than the company is worth this despite the fact that Yahoo! is fading fast. Most experts think that Google is going to have a lock on the web advertising market within a year or two and Yahoo! may even be irrelevant by then.

What will M$ do now? There are a number of things it can do. As a shareholder in Yahoo! they can try to stage a takeover of the board of directors at the next shareholder's meeting which will then accept a M$ offer. The problem with that is that M$ probably can't muster the votes.

Another thing they can do is to walk away or at least pretend to walk away. This would probably cause the shares to take a nose dive and scare Yahoo! shareholders a tad as they see their precious stocks' value disappear before their very eyes. M$ can then come back with a new, much lower, bid but one that would allow those frightened shareholder to recover some of their wealth.

Still, Microsoft could also walk away for real and let Yahoo! die in it's own time. All the experts think that Yahoo! is done for anyway and a Microsoft deal would only postpone the inevitable. Some experts think that Microsoft is done for as well. I certainly hope so.

i actually don't want Microsoft and Yahoo! to merge. That'll leave less options for us.

I kinda like having many options to choose from such as the instant messenger, email, and search.

I don't think Yahoo! will ever go away, mainly because it's always been there and they'll think of something.

i see yahoo being advertised alot on tv lately Alot of commercials for other people's products say "search for us on yahoo.com" etc. So i think they'll be okay.

Microsoft has never been as popular as yahoo, and more people use yahoo products than they do Micrsoft's live products.

imagine what would happen with that. Microsoft would probably force everyone to use hotmail, and close down yahoo, which would be lame. I don't see how it could really run two different independent email services.

Yahoo needs to get back to their roots. Reenable Yahoo! browser based Chat rooms, and user private rooms, and make their email service more free. Such get premium services for free. Those are some of the keys that'll bring them back.

Email providers simply don't fade away for no reason. They fade away because some other services offers the same thing or even better at a lower price or for free. Google proved that with their GMAIL service.

For me, its always been Yahoo! and Mirosoft as the online presence, and it'd be weird to just not have that anymore. It'd be microsoft and google.

Maybe if Microsoft bought yahoo, they'd get rid of this windows live stuff, and just use "yahoo" as their online service brand. That would actually be kinda cool, but then they'd have Yahoo! Mail! and Yahoo! Hotmail, ha. in that idea of thinking about it it does seem kinda cool, and i'd like to see google lowered. Personally, i don't like their search and find most of their services lacking, dull, and boring. Need some personality.

I think Yahoo! wants to stay its own company which is why its totally rejecting Microsoft. I guess it's a bit funny how Microsoft probably thought that Yahoo! would instantly accept the offer.

It appears that M$ is giving up the attempt to take over Yahoo! This might be a ploy, as I indicated originally, but it may not be. Time will tell.

The news might be different elsewhere, but certainly here, they were reporting that there was some sort of dispute as to the amount of money Yahoo was worth, and everything broke down as a result.

Here in The United Kingdom, BTInternet, which is one of the biggest Internet suppliers has something or other to do with Yahoo, yet Google is still streets ahead in terms of search engine results.

If they really want to outdo Google, surely Microsoft would do better to set up their own, and add it as a default search engine to their own merchandise?

That said, it isn't as though they don't corner the market with Windows, so why the need for more profits beats me!

I don't think MS is giving up. I think its a strategy move.

they pulled their offer in hopes that the share owners will complain and everything, and put enough pressure on Yahoo! to accept the offer.

Microsoft could have went many ways, but i don't think its over. I think in the end Microsoft will end up owning Yahoo! or some other company will. The share holders will just not let something happen, and i think the only way Yahoo! can get out of it is to have someone else buy them. Imagine if Google ended up buying Yahoo! Silly which would be kinda cool.

Yahoo! is already in talks to outsource its ads to google anyways.

There was something about some lame time-warner merge with yahoo. I think time warner still owns parts of AOL, which i think will be a bad deal just because i hate them ha.

But In the long run i think Microsoft will be okay online because there are also discussions going on to merge News Corp's Myspace and other sites with some Microsoft services.
